DIY Striped Charger Plates

So the other day I was browsing online for ideas on charger plates for my dining room table. This was my inspiration....

I really like the the stripes on this one

This one is very modern and clean

This is just fabulous...I love the colors!

Unfortunately this is what I had to work with...womp womp! : / I started thinking about what I could do to update the current chargers I owned. These ones looked too plain and boring so most of the time they were stored away. 

                               

So this is what I came up with. I was amazed and happy that they match my spray painted napkin rings

Materials used:

• 6 charger plates in any color
• painters tape (1 inch)
• white semi gloss Krylon spray paint

Quick Note: Charger plates are NOT meant to be eaten off of. Just for decor!

First, you want to start by taping the plate. Add 4 strips of tape across and press down firmly on the tape to ensure there were no openings that would cause the spray paint to seep through. To get even lines you can cut 2 small pieces of tape and place them under each strip of tape that is on the charger. This will help you lay the next strip of tape down evenly and give you even space between the tape.

 Next step is to give the chargers a couple coats of spray paint with ample time to dry between coats. Once dry to touch you can start to slowly strip of the tape from each plate. I left them to dry for 24 hours and then washed them down lightly with soapy water.

This is what the charger looks like with my napkin rings. Second picture shows all the plates on my dining table. : )

Spray Painted Napkin Rings

Hey Everyone!
Here is another quick and easy project that I completed yesterday night. I had purchased some napkin rings at Pier 1 Imports a while back because I loved the design and they were on sale. : ) However, these puppies needed a color change... black is not always the business. : D The only napkins I own are black so they didn't go well with my napkins rings. I decided to go with spray painting the napkin rings instead of painting because it is very easy to do and any project can be completed the same day. If I didn't use spray paint for most of my projects it would take foreverrrr to complete : / and I wouldn't want that. lol

Tips for spray painting:
1. make sure you set your project up in a well ventilated area like outside
2. put something underneath your projects like a piece of cardboard or wood to protect the surface
3. READ the instructions on the spray paint bottle for the best results

I took all 6 black napkin rings shown here

I spray painted them with a couple coats of white semi-gloss Krylon brand spray paint

Here are the end results of my napkins rings...Dont they look new?!?

DIY Chevron Canvas Wall Art

I just love love love this pattern!!!

I've seen this pattern a lot on furniture, bedding, clothing, artwork, and more. I wanted to give one of my walls a face lift so I decided to go with canvas wall art in my favorite colors black & white. I've seen many blogs give tutorials on how to do this but using a printed stencil, ruler and pins. However, I am not very patient so I decided to freehand it and try and do it my way (the lazy way?) haha

First step is to prep your canvas by painting the entire canvas a single color of your choice (mine was white with pearl mixed together) and wait for it to dry. This shouldn't take too long. After your canvas is all dry start cutting out strips of tape to use for the chevron shape. Now the shape and size of the chevron is totally up to you. I wanted mine to look big and bold so I only used two chevron lines across my canvas. Make sure that you press down on the tape and smooth out any air bubbles to avoid and bleed though of paint under the tape.

Once you have finished taping you can go ahead and fill in the inside of tape with the other color of choice (mine was black). Pull off the tape before your canvas is completely dry. If there are any smudges or paint that bleed through just wait for the paint to dry and go over it with a foam brush tip and dipped in paint.

...And there you have it! My bare wall received a face lift and some much needed accessories. Have fun with yours!!!
